For many organizations, it makes a huge difference to be able to see all your data in one location. But creating a custom solution to integrate data from multiple sources can be costly, despite the benefit. In fact, you may have experienced the pain of developing a proprietary system, which ended up costing a lot of man hours, and then may not have even worked as anticipated.

Enter Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), and Oracle GoldenGate (GG). Both solutions, while not quite as easy as pushing a button, greatly simplify the process and reduce the number of man-hours needed for a data integration project.

Oracle Data Integrator

ODI handles data moving, loading, and transformation in a large bulk approach from all your various systems, small to enterprise level large systems.

If you’re holding back on integrating additional data sources because it’s a huge pain to expand your custom system, switching to ODI can save a lot of headache while adding those additional sources.

Pre-built ODI modules are available to provide rapid jumping off point for data integration products. There are hundreds of modules to choose from as your starting points.

For your IT staff, the UI of the tool provided makes life much easier. You can invest your time focusing more on the “what” needs to be done than the “how,” as the actual implementation is made much easier.

In fact, the entire environment is simplified so IT doesn’t have to learn multiple development tools. One tool is used to integrate all the data sources. While not quite as easy as pushing a single button, it does require far less man-hours than a custom solution.

And to be clear, ODI is not just for Oracle database environments. The modules that are available are for a variety of environments, due to the reality of the technology-heterogeneous nature of organizations.

Oracle GoldenGate

ODI is not quite a real-time solution, but is a nightly refresh. If your organization requires a real-time solution, Oracle GoldenGate is more up your alley.

Oracle GoldenGate can work either as a stand-alone, real-time data integration solution, or it can work alongside ODI.

GG is a CDC technology for replication. It will keep multiple databases in sync by looking at the real-time changes in the data. Just like ODI, GG works with non-Oracle database systems, including Terradata, DB2, SQL SErver, and Sysbase, to name a few.

Naturally, GG has a bigger investment, being a real-time system. However, it has less overhead, because it’s only grabbing the changes to the database, not replicating entire databases like ODI.

If migrating to an easier data integration system sounds like it might be a good fit for your organization, we’d be happy to talk and see if either ODI or GG is a good fit for you. Contact us to have that conversation.
